About Katherine

I bought Awelon which translated from Welsh means” Breeze” in 2002. It needed total renovation. I was determined that all the rooms were able to have the panoramic views of the coast and Manorbier castle.  The guest bedrooms are situated in the original cottage end of the house dating back to at least 1877.  I only know this because I took down the ceiling in my sitting room, and discovered perfectly intact a Daily Telegraph newspaper with headlines about the war in Prussia and the J Class yacht races at Cowes regatta.  In the 1930’s the house was extended which caused a great deal of acrimony with the owner’s of the properties directly behind my house as suddenly it obscured their views of the beach and the castle. In Manorbier village residents commonly referred to it as “Spite Cottage”.

I came to live in North Pembrokeshire in 1996 from London where I had been working as a senior nurse. I moved into Awelon in 2003 with my son Kal now a delectable teenager!  We also have a dog called Fudge who is a right little minx, but she appears to charm my guests.  I have tried to encourage her to become a domestic goddess but the training is not going well. In 2011 Manorbier bed and breakfast opened for business on the recommendation from a close friend who knew that I enjoyed cooking and meeting people from all walks of life and all over the world.  The rest, as they say, is history…….

I would like to think I have a knowledge of both North and South Pembrokeshire if guests would like some ideas as to where to explore for a day out.  I have walked stretches of the Coast Path and love taking my camera with me on my travels around the county.  I like cooking so promoting Pembrokeshire produce and cooking gluten, lacto free and vegetarian diets does not pose too much of a problem! Sometimes some of the slightly more radical dietary requests set me a challenge!!! Life is not supposed to be boring!
